performance culture in action

where ambition meets opportunity

Performance is key. Results matter. Ownership isn’t optional.

At Sensient, you're expected to step up, solve problems, and deliver. We move fast, hold each other accountable, and continuously raise the bar because that's how we stay ahead. It's demanding, but that's exactly what creates opportunities to grow, make an impact, and do your best work.

Clear expectations and strong support mean people know where they stand, how to progress, and can spend less time second-guessing and more time taking ownership and building their careers.

The people who thrive here take ownership and act decisively. To understand what that looks like day to day, we spoke with Lara, Head of HR, Flavors EU; Brittney, Senior HR Generalist, Flavors US; and Nada, Senior Human Resources Manager, about how performance shows up across the business.

clarity, not ambiguity

Success isn’t left to interpretation here.

As Brittney explains, “individuals are consistently supported, measured, and held accountable for the work that they do. People know what success looks like.” Nada sees that same accountability as central to Sensient’s culture, where employees are expected to have “a high degree of ownership, accountability, and focus on results.”

There are no unwritten rules or hidden agendas. You know what's expected of you, how success is measured, and what it takes to keep moving forward. That clarity gives people the confidence to make decisions and focus on delivering results.

ownership is expected

Doing your job is the starting point. Taking ownership of outcomes is what sets people apart.

For Lara, performance starts with mindset. She describes it as “an inner sense of responsibility for the outcome,” driven by continuous improvement and a willingness to find better solutions. That means taking initiative and fixing problems instead of waiting for someone else to deal with them.

Brittney sees this ownership extend beyond day-to-day work. People “have the mentality that they own their careers”, so they step into challenges, make bold moves, and actively pursue growth. They’re trusted to make decisions, solve problems, and shape their own careers. Because everyone understands the framework they're working within, they're empowered to get on with the job and make a real impact.

stepping in and stepping up

Our performance culture is best seen when deadlines tighten, problems appear, and people pitch in when it matters.

Lara points to examples that often go unseen: employees staying late to resolve issues, improving processes to save time, or stepping in at weekends when something needs to get done. As she puts it, “These are daily stories not always visible to everyone, but we make them visible and proudly recognize these efforts.”

That level of commitment creates an environment where people support one another, share knowledge, solve problems faster, and continue learning together. As Nada hears from new hires, “Everyone seems very busy, but they always take time to help with a smile on their face.”

Shared expectations mean everyone is working towards the same goal. They make collaboration easier, knowledge easier to share, and problems quicker to solve. High standards don't mean going it alone. They mean pulling together.

drive is non-negotiable

Ambition helps. Drive is essential.

Nada believes a winning mindset shapes how teams operate day to day. “When we focus on winning, we get the projects accomplished and develop a great team,” she explains. Winning, she says, “can fuel motivation and healthy competition.”

Brittney is equally direct: “A drive to win is critical to succeed at Sensient.” Winning looks different in every role, from securing business to solving problems, improving processes, or delivering against tough expectations. What matters is the mindset: pushing forward, owning results, and taking on new challenges.

who makes it here

Not everyone thrives in this kind of environment.

Technical skills and experience matter. Attitude is what sets people apart.

Nada points to qualities like “integrity, professionalism, accountability, flexibility, patience, teamwork, and leadership potential” as traits that help people succeed and grow at Sensient.

Lara puts it more simply: “It’s can-do, will-do; a positive attitude and drive that moves mountains.”

Brittney sees the same mindset in people who take ownership of their careers, shift functions, step into unfamiliar territory, and push themselves toward bigger goals. As she explains, “Sensient fully supports these individuals and helps them meet or exceed their goals.”

It's this combination of clear expectations, ownership, and support that helps people continue developing throughout their careers.

are you in?

This culture is not designed to appeal to everyone. It’s designed for people who want to make an impact.

If you’re looking for comfort or someone else to make the decisions for you, this may not be the right fit. But if you're driven by accountability, ownership, and the chance to solve meaningful challenges, you'll find the support you need to succeed and every opportunity to keep growing.

We're upfront about what it's like to work here because we'd rather people know exactly what they're joining. For the right person, it's a place to build a career with real momentum.

Because at Sensient, the people who step up are the ones who help us move forward.

So the question is simple: are you in?

Explore opportunities and prove yourself.
