Candy in many different colors

natural colors are changing the industry

the race is already on

The shift toward natural colors is accelerating. Regulations are tightening, and brands are reformulating.

We’ve been preparing for this moment for over 20 years.

Across Sensient, teams are already helping customers navigate the transition with the scale, technical expertise, and innovation needed to move quickly. We spoke with leaders across our Colors business about where the industry is heading, what it takes to stay ahead, and the kind of talent needed to drive the next phase of growth.

leading the transition

The food color industry is entering a defining moment. Demand for natural solutions is rising fast, but the transition is complex. Reformulation challenges, supply chain pressure, evolving regulations, and customer expectations are colliding at once.

For Mayela R, Technical Director at Colors Latin America, this shift presents a huge opportunity for the companies prepared to move first. “Natural colors are having their moment,” she explains, but success will depend on speed, technical expertise, and the ability to deliver solutions that perform like synthetic colors once did.

While others are reacting to the shift, we’ve already been building for it.

“Our business model already gives us the manufacturing scale, customer relationships, and technical credibility needed to lead the way,” says Mayela. The focus now is on further expanding that advantage by accelerating natural color capabilities before competitors catch up.

That momentum is being felt across the industry. Laura M, Quality & Product Safety Director at Colors Latin America, describes the market as undergoing “a massive transition from synthetic to natural colors,” driven not only by US regulations but also by global brands adapting globally.

Leonard D, General Manager, Colors Latin America, puts it simply. “The most prepared company will win the lion’s share.” His view is clear: Sensient is already ahead of the curve.

what it takes to move the industry forward

This transition is moving fast, and not everyone will keep up.

The industry needs people who can solve problems, think commercially, move with urgency, and collaborate across teams to turn complex challenges into real-world solutions.

For Mayela, technical expertise alone isn’t enough. “Technical service sits at the intersection of science and commerce,” she says. The people who stand out understand customer needs, navigate challenges, and translate technical knowledge into solutions that work in practice.

Across the business, the same themes come up repeatedly: collaboration, urgency, adaptability, customer focus, and a drive to win.

For Isaldy M, Director of Sales, Colors Latin America, the opportunity is what makes this moment exciting. “We are looking for the best talent to help us drive this change with the best attitude and passion for winning,” she says. “It is an amazing opportunity to be part of this historical moment.”

As Laura explains, Sensient is looking for people “who are willing to work with challenges and energy” and who recognize the scale of the opportunity ahead. Leonard is even more direct: “At all levels we need leaders who strive to lead, win, and fix problems.”
